Mid Ulster District councillors are to be told on Thursday that the Department of Enterprise is considering giving Dalradian Gold another prospecting licence - this time for all minerals.
The news comes in the midst of a campaign against a proposed goldmine under the same company in the Sperrin Mountains town of Greencastle.
This new prospecting licence, which covers almost 70sq miles, appears to branch into a much larger area of the Sperrins.
Stretching from the tip of Draperstown in Mid Ulster, right up to and including Dungiven, it also takes in a small section of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.
