Riada started strong and created a couple of early chances with Agnew being denied by the Garvagh keeper, McCook having a header blocked and then Agnew firing wide when well placed.

Riada then took the lead when Chestnutt fired low into the corner from the edge of the box.

Garvagh then came into it and probably shaded the rest of the half with the dangerous Patterson come close on several occasions. Garvagh continued to press at the start of the second half and got their reward as a Garvey free kick was touched in at the near post to beat McGaughey in the Riada goal.

Riada regained the lead when Christie robbed Evans out wide to run through on goal and smash in an unstoppable shot at the near post. Agnew added a third soon after to make it more comfortable but Garvagh were always in this game, indeed having a late penalty saved by McGaughey which could have made it a nervy ending for Riada. Final score 3-1 to Riada.

This Saturday Riada are in Steel and Sons Shield action when they play Height’s Reserves at Megaw Park with a 2pm kick-off.
