Boost for local food waste recyclers

A civic push is on to encourage more residents in Ballymena and the wider Mid & East Antrim borough to recycle organic waste.

The processing cost for organic waste is considerably lower than sending waste straight to landfill.

Last year, over 12,300 tonnes of waste was processed through brown bins across Mid & East Antrim, representing almost half million pounds of savings to ratepayers.

“Moving forward, Council will focus on promoting responsible use of caddy liners and will target distribution to householders who use their brown bins,” a spokesperson for the local authority said.
